Colleagues from Cornerstone Finance Group and Imperial Chartered have raised more than £11,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) through our annual golf day.
We have been fundraising for MNDA since 2021, raising money through our annual golf day as well as a range of activities including raffles, Christmas jumper days, the Cardiff Half Marathon and a 3,000 Squat Challenge.
This year’s event, our sixth annual golf day, was held at Radyr Golf Club in Cardiff and supported by former Wales and British & Irish Lions rugby star Scott Quinnell. Together, we raised £11,005, taking our total fundraising for MNDA to £61,439.
We are now planning further fundraising activities with the aim of raising an additional £20,000 for the charity.
MNDA is a charity close to the hearts of co-founder Gareth Morgan as well as our CEO Haydn Thomas and Cornerstone Commercial Finance managing director Kevin Morgan.
Alongside many of our colleagues, they worked for around 25 years with Markus Matthews, whose wife Christine was diagnosed with MND eight years ago.
A total of 23 teams took part in the golf day, including colleagues, advisers, clients and lenders.
The winning team was made up of Imperial Chartered guests Dai Walters, Danny Egan, Sam Thomas and Leo Llewellyn. Saltus Asset Management took second place, with NatWest coming third.
The event also included a charity auction, with Scott Quinnell presenting the prizes.
The golf day was organised by Gareth and Markus alongside Jon Roberts, Head of Real Estate at Cornerstone Commercial Finance, and colleague Alyson Hamer.

“Our annual golf day has become quite the fixture in the calendar. It is an opportunity to bring together colleagues and valued contacts, to spend time together outside of the office and to enjoy some friendly competition whilst raising money for a fantastic charity.
“We are so proud of the generosity of everyone who takes part and we know that their donations make a very real difference to MNDA.
“We’re incredibly grateful too to Scott Quinnell, whose enthusiasm and energy really lit up the charity auction and undoubtedly helped us reach such an outstanding total.
“This year’s golf day may now be over but we’ll keep raising funds for the charity, as well as awareness of the disease.”
The Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan branch of MNDA is run entirely by volunteers and covers Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan and the Rhondda Cynon Taff areas.
It holds regular information and social group meetings for people living with MND and their carers, family and friends which provide an opportunity to meet with other people living with the disease and to share experiences and ideas. It also provides advice and signposts to other services and can provide specialist equipment and access to small grants.
