Colleagues from a Cardiff-based finance and wealth management group are running the Principality Cardiff Half Marathon in a bid to reach their milestone fundraising target.

Staff at Imperial Chartered and Cornerstone Finance Group have been fundraising for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) since 2021.

Through activities including charity golf days, raffles, Christmas jumper days and a 3,000 Squat Challenge the team has already raised £33,500.

Now their sights are set on reaching a total of £50,000 through sponsorship for the Cardiff Half Marathon, which is set to take place on October 6th.

Meanwhile, colleague Rob Williams, who is on a year-long sabbatical from the firm and is in Australia, will be running the Perth Half Marathon on the same day.

MNDA is a charity close to the hearts of co-founders Gareth Morgan and Jason Jones as well as Cornerstone Finance Group CEO Haydn Thomas and Cornerstone Commercial Finance managing director Kevin Morgan.

They, along with many other Imperial and Cornerstone colleagues, worked for around 25 years with Markus Matthews, whose wife Christine was diagnosed with MND six years ago.

Haydn said:

“We have known Markus and Chris for many years and we have huge admiration for the way they are coping with this awful disease. Through them we’ve got to know the Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan branch of the charity, and we see how hard they work to support people who have MND as well as their families and carers.

By fundraising we hope to play our own small part in the search for a cure and help the charity to provide the incredible support it offers.

“We’ve set ourselves an ambitious target but we’re absolutely determined to reach it because every penny really does make a difference. We’d like to ask all of our contacts in our networks to support us by giving what they can to help us reach that £50,000 figure.”

The Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan branch of MNDA is run entirely by volunteers and covers Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan and the Rhondda Cynon Taff areas.

It holds regular information and social group meetings for people living with MND and their carers, family and friends which provide an opportunity to meet with other people living with the disease and to share experiences and ideas. It also provides advice and signposts to other services and can provide specialist equipment and access to small grants.
